Who's Taking A Photo Of Who?

Spotted this today as I was walking about town, a couple of locals just walking in Queen Street in fancy dress tiger suits become a living tourist attraction for a group of visiting students. The students had just come out of the carfax tower when the tigers walked past, when the students all lined up with there camera's out and took a couple of photo's each. The tigers were a little surprised, but managed to get a photo of the group of students taking photo's of them. Very funny to watch.

Pick A Postcard

I love buying postcards when I am travelling however I find that I either do not have time to write them out or I can not find a post office to get stamps to post them off. I then find that I am bring a number of postcards back home, and I now have a large collection of unsent postcards. I do however always have a look at the postcards to get photography tips of what I should or how I should be taking photo's in places that I visit.

British Love Red

Was in Little Clarendon Street today when I noticed all these red against the wall of this empty shop. Just when I was taking this photo I realised how much the British like this deep red colour. I am not sure why so many classic british designs are this colour red, apart from the mail box and MG in this photo, you have the telephone box and the old mini that are often seen in red. Any idea's?

Sorry for the couple of days that I missed posting, I have been a little pre occupied the last couple of weeks and also not been in Oxford due to work, but I am hoping I will be back on track now, and thanks for all the comments.

Footpath Repairs In St John Street

Took this photo yesterday, to let residents of St John Street know that for the next three weeks the council will be repairing the footpaths in the street. I am not sure if this will be a complete replacement of the footpath or just a fix up of area's that have become a concern, will have a look during the week to see what is exactly happening.

Sunny Morning On London Road

Around Headington this morning the sun was so bright shining off the Co-Op's sign I did not know if this photo would work out. Like the very long shadows, if I was up earlier they would have been a little longer. Wonder what the London Road will be like at this time on Monday morning? Busier?

Watching Le Tour de France

If you are looking for a place to sit and watch the tour de France in Oxford, Zappi's Bike Cafe in the cycle store on St Michaels Street is the place to go. I was up there today watching the race, away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford with a coke and a very nice yogurt slice. Would recommend this cafe, if you want to get away from all the crowds of Oxford, nice staff as well.

Britain From The Air Walk On Map

Still at the Oxford Castle, the Britain From The Air exhibition has another great feature a very large OS map of Britain that you can walk on, if you take your shoes off. It is part of the great photo's that you can see around the castle, with the location of those photo's indicated on the map.

You Have To Wait For Your Coffee

This was the line into Costa Coffee this afternoon on Queen Street. I have not seen this promotion before however reading the board it states that you can get a half price drink everyday between 4-6pm, might be worth the wait? It was certainly popular this afternoon.

Headington Road From The 280

When getting on a double decker bus I always go to the top deck, and if I am lucky I get the front seat. Today I was lucky enough to get both and took this photo as I was coming into Oxford along the Headington Road near the Girls School. Look at those clouds, I think it is going to rain this weekend....

Nuclear Power? No Thanks

Peaceful, silent, protestor in Cornmarket this afternoon. I like those type who just make a quiet statement without being in your face. Not sure if I agree or not, but I do like the approach.

Island In The Stream

Spotted this today in the Mill Stream, a little island made out of sticks with, and I am not sure, the Mother Duck, sitting with about five ducklings all out in the open but away from everyone. The places nature is able to call home is amazing.

Digital TV Switch Over

Oxford will have digital TV before the end of the year, so there have been lots of posters and information about the change about. However this morning I spotted this stall in Bonn Square which was bright and very eye catching providing additional information and answering any questions about this change. Did not ask how long it was going to be there? I don't have a TV so this will not effect me, but how many are ready for the switch over?

Britain From The Air At The Castle

There is a great exhibition at the Oxford Castle at the moment, Britain From The Air. It is an out door exhibition of photo's taken from the air of places of interest from around Britain. The photo's are very good as you would expect, giving you a view of these special places in a way that you would not normally see. Well worth a visit to the castle if you are in the area to see this display.

The display would be at the Castle until the 14th of September, if you are Oxford between this period I would recommend you have a look.

Touring German Style

Spotted in New Inn Hall Street this afternoon, a German tour operator's 4x4 tour vehicle complete with snorkel. Not exactly sure what the brochure said about the trip to Oxford, but I am sure that when the passengers saw the 4x4 they have been disappointed with the quality of our road in Oxford. You can camp on the top of this bus, have a look at this photo with the tents in operations.

Old BookBinders Is Now Open

For the residents of Jericho who have missed having one of the area's well loved pub, The Old Book Binders reopened tonight was a long time coming. Locals who have missed having the friendly pub in Victor Street open since it closed about 3 months ago, where very happy when the doors opened this afternoon.
One of the unique features of this pub, the barrel of Monkey Nuts, are back, which went well with regulars tonight, and I even had a very nice crepe, so looks like the kitchen will also be open as well.

Jesus College Open Day

Continuing on from yesterdays post, again to across Oxford most, if not all of the colleges had there doors wide open for anyone to wonder in and have a look around. These days are aimed at future students, however if you were visiting Oxford over these days, you can also just sneak in and have a look around also. Bonus if you where in Oxford today!

History Faculty Open Day

This week with all the students returning home, alot of the colleges and departments are having open days. Unfortunately the History Department in George Street will be open to the public only between the hors of 2-5pm on Thursday the 7th of July

High Street Oxford

As the sun was setting on the High Street I snapped this shot, again the end and start of the day are so quiet, like being in another city all together. Love quiet Oxford.

Independence Day In Oxford

While most of the world know that on the 4th of July the United States of America celebrate Independence Day, in Oxford not everyone recognises this date in the same way. Retailers in Oxford, that is Independent Retailers have used today to encourage customers to give your local independent store on the High Street a chance, and I would agree. Oxford is very fortunate that we still have a large number of unique stores like Walters on Turl Street who offer a very different shopping experience and product compared to the National chains. The retailers are not anti multi nationals, just want to encourage people to have a look at the smaller independent stores and you may be surprised.

Cowley Rd Carnival Mini

In South Parks this weekend, the residents of Oxford where having a carnival, The Cowley Road Carnival. Mini is one of the main sponsors, and had one of there new models badged up at the main entry to South Parks. The carnival is very popular, and there was loads to do and see when I was wondering around, music, painting, craft, dancing, a very nice family feel. Not exactly sure why this Carnival always happens just after the end of the academic year when all the students have returned home, is it a celebration by the locals that they have there streets back for the short summer period? Any idea's.

Photo Shoot In Walton Street

Not sure what this is for or who the model was, but in Walton Street out the front of Daisies Florist there was a lot of activity. Anyone know more about this? They had the girl on the left just walk up and down for about 15mins, just in front of the store. Looks like a lot of people for a couple of photos?
Hay, Thanks Alex for the answer, I did not see that small detail on the sign, so it must be for Boden.

Trinity College Ball Setting Up

When you are organising a College Ball one of the first things you need to book is the Dodgem Car's, seen here being set up on the right. The white tent on the right will be where the party is going to happen, according to the college website the headline act for this years ball will be The Streets. This should be a great night for those students and guest attending, not like the end of year partys that I am used to, wonder how you get an invite?
