Crisp Night In Oxford City Centre

I don't often play around with the photo's on Oxford Daily Photo but todays photo I took all the colour out as I think it captures the temperature a little better.  It was a very crisp evening tonight, but I am hoping for better weather soon.

St John's Barge

Did anyone see St John's College Barge moored up against Christ Church meadow this afternoon for a private party?  Now that is what Bank Holidays are all about, Private parties on the River in your college barge! Not sure how many colleges have Barges?

Bonn Square Becomes Speakers Corner

Little bit of public open air debate happening in Bonn Square this afternoon.  It attracted a lot of passing  shoppers to stop and listen for a short time, and also there were a bout 5 police posted to the area.  This photo was taken at about 4pm and I was told that it had been going on since about 11am.  Not seen this in Bonn Square before.

Libbe

Long time visitors to Oxford Daily Photo will know that I have a fascination of number plates and what they all mean.  Today I spotted this one LI BBE which I think is a great plate, but I am not sure if the owner's name would be Li Bbe?  Perhaps Libby?

Carfax Tower With No Hands

I think the ever popular meeting point in the centre of Oxford, Carfax has lost it's clock and quarter bells for restoration.  Where is the closest public clock to Carfax?

Busy Oxford High Street

Like most city centre High Street, Oxford's seems to be always full of traffic no matter what time of the day it is.  This photo was taken this morning at 6:45am and already the place was a hive of activity with  rubbish trucks, delivery vans, buses and pedestrians all making an early start.

Vaults & Garden Cafe

Bikes are used for everything in Oxford, including advertising like this old bike in the High Street for highlighting that under University Church is a lovely Cafe and Garden.  Right in the middle of busy University land, there is a great cafe and garden, should be considered if you are looking for a place to rest have a bite to eat

Warmest Day Of The Year

At around the time this photo was taken, 15:50 the temperature hit 22°C or about 72°F the warmest day of the year so far.  I was going to say hottest day of the year, but I am not sure 22°C is officially Hot.  Anyway it was warm enough for a group of students to take a swim in the River.

If this photo was taken last year, you would not have had those ugly student accommodation blocks in the back ground, these have been put up by Oxford University in a dam hurry.  Port Meadow having Scheduled National Monument status was always surrounded by lovely trees making it a very unique spot, not now. If you are concerned about development and the university developing Port Meadow, please sign these epetition

New Crepe Store In Queen Street

You have to love the new Crepe vendor on Queen Street, the set up is amazing!  Serving out of an Old Citroen van, complete with French registration, is out latest Crepe Store in front of the West Gate Centre, I am not sure how long they are going to trade from this spot, but I am hoping it will be for awhile. Next time I am in town I am going to have one for sure!

Have a look our old Crepe store, that was in August 2012.

Mr Shoes Closes In Oxford

We again see another empty store in the city centre, this time on George Street with Mr Shoes closing down.  I am not sure the reason behind this closure, but any empty store in the city centre is not a good sign, let's just hope it was not the high rent or council taxes that pushed them to close.

Oxford Election Results On Front Page

All the counting has been completed and from the looks of the headlines in this mornings Oxford Mail, Tories have not done as well has they may have expected.  Needing 32 seats to keep control of the County Council they only managed to get 31 seats, so I am not sure what will happen now. Might be all change in the National Elections?

And on a slightly different note, May the forth be with you!

H&M Oxford Store

It's been about 11 months since my last photo of the this area in Shoe Lane and the development of the new H&M store in Oxford as part of the Clarendon Centre.  I am not sure what the time line for the opening of this popular store will be, but I am guessing that it will not be for a number of months.  The previous photo's here

Tulips In University Parks

I know it is later that usual, but in University Parks today there are 100's of Spring flowers on display, including this large bed of Tulips close to the gate on Parks Road.  With the Bank Holiday this weekend looking to be good weather wise, I am sure the Parks will be very busy this weekend.

In preparation for May Day Celebrations in the city centre roads around the area will be closed and parking suspended from the early hours of the morning, if you are travelling into Oxford for May Morning, beware of these restrictions.
